Tems interview with Kendrick Lamar via Interview magazine has blown up the internet as Tems sheds some light on her creative process and the amount of work she’s been doing in the recording studio. According to her, she turns into one of those mad scientists in a cartoon when she is left in the studio all by herself.
Promising her fans an album this year after a fan called her out on Twitter in November 2022, Tems is going really hard on herself to fulfill her promise. Tagging Tems studio madness, the Pinky, and the brain syndrome, Lamar took us on a rollercoaster of Tems emotions.
Speaking on her success, the music star relates that it is easy to lose sight of one’s true purpose and motivations. She lets out that it is a common trap to become caught up in the expectations and opinions of others losing touch with the reasons why one started their artistic journey in the first place. In her words, “Yeah, you have to remember how you felt as an artist, to understand the reason you are doing what you are doing. Yes, it’s to be seen, or to make a name for yourself, but beyond that, why are you doing it?”
Tems went on to emphasize the importance of trusting oneself and staying true to one’s gut. Quoting her, the Animals won’t change their behavior just because you are looking at them, they are always going to be who they are. So why should I change? Or better still Why should we change?
