We all want to smell good. It boosts our confidence. Also, inevitably, everyone has times when we are just not smelling too peachy. Luckily, freshening up with a pleasant fragrance is as easy as it can be. But not everyone is a fan of perfume — especially when it is overwhelming.
However, there are other ways to ensure you smell great, whether you have perfume around or not. The best way to smell good is to know your body. Understanding how you react to different scents and wash routines is a sure way to ensure an all-day freshness.
Smelling good tends to require a few changes to your hygiene routine. Here are our tips to help you smell good all day and every day.
1. Shower Regularly And Use Good Soap
It may seem obvious, but regular showers are the best ways to remove bacteria, excess oil, and body odor from your skin. Use a good-smelling soap or body wash to wash away any odor and leave a lasting scent on your skin.
Not only does soap keep the germs away, but it can also truly boost your scent profile. Your skin’s microbiome also plays a large part in your smell so avoid using specific antibiotic cleansers or topicals to reduce bacteria. Make sure you use mild soaps that protect your skin’s microbiome.
When you are done showering, give yourself time to cool down and dry off before getting dressed. If you get dressed too soon, you may start to sweat immediately, which can prevent you from smelling fresh.
2. Drink Plenty of Water
If there’s one thing you can do to keep smelling good, it is to drink plenty of water. Truthfully, water keeps your body running normally. Drinking plenty of water helps you smell good by diluting scents that may be a little unpleasant such as garlic, onions, and coffee breath It also helps your body regulate heat by keeping the body cool, so it can help reduce sweating. Drink water throughout your day to keep your body fresh and smelling good all day.
3. Brush Your Teeth Twice Daily
To keep your breath smelling fresh, brush your teeth in the morning and at night every single day. Spend at least 2 minutes brushing each time. Also, replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months, and always use floss after eating.
4. Wash Your Clothes And Other Items Regularly
You may have to assess your laundry situation as it may be your smelly clothes that are preventing you from smelling fresh and clean all day. Body residues that cause odor in clothing tend to be water or oil-based. These types of residues can cling to clothing and become a source of odor. Eliminate these unfortunate smells from your clothes by regularly washing your clothes with a good laundry detergent.
Change your clothes daily, including your shirt and shorts or pants, all your undergarments (like your underwear, bra, and socks), as well as any clothing items that touch your skin (such as a tank, camisole, or slip). Fresh clothes will keep you smelling great all day long.
Also, wash your clothes after each use. Your bed sheets, pillowcases, towels, and other household items should be washed regularly as well. Your detergent doesn’t have to be expensive, and it doesn’t have to be loaded with strong fragrances. However, it does need to get rid of hidden odors within your clothes and leave you with fresh garments.
5. Apply Lightly Scented Perfume
A soft-smelling perfume is a good choice to add a top layer of pleasant smell to your overall outfit. You don’t want your choice of smell to be overpowering. An ideal deodorant will provide an extra source of freshness.
Antiperspirant has a unique formula that soaks into your pores to temporarily prevent sweat from ruining your day so you can try applying some. If you smell great in the morning but start to notice your body odor later in the day, don’t be afraid to always take deodorant with you. Reapplying deodorant helps kill odor-causing bacteria on your skin and can help you smell good throughout your entire day.
If you want to smell good, add good-smelling perfumes into everything that you do.
6. Watch What You Eat
No matter how good you smell on the outside, if your breath isn’t at par, your look won’t be either. Bad breath can ruin any outfit. You are what you eat, and the same goes for your sweat. Certain foods like onions, spices, and garlic can leave a lasting smell on your skin and also in your sweat.
When possible, avoid these foods that are naturally more pungent. If you are worried you might need to eat these foods, carry around gum or non-alcoholic mouthwash to freshen up your breath mid-day.
7. Wear The Right Clothes For the Weather
Wearing clothing the right way is essential to smelling good. Clothes play a factor in the way you smell. Always wear clothes that suit the weather. Don’t wear very thick clothes when the weather is hot.
If it is a cold day and you are wearing a sweatshirt, consider spraying your fragrance on the mid-layer. This way, the scent won’t get rubbed off by a jacket or mashed by two layers on top. Also, and most importantly, this is where heat is concentrated. By spraying an inner t-shirt, you’re helping activate the perfume to its fullest.
8. Clean Your Shoes And Use Shoe Spray
Shoes can easily become smelly if they are not cleaned often due to the accumulation of sweat and bacteria. When they get especially dirty or stinky, wash them in your washing machine and allow them to dry in direct sunlight.
Shoe sprays are also good ways to help you smell fresh always. Originally used by athletes, anyone can purchase this lifesaver. You should consider this option especially when you are planning on going sockless for the day. Even if you don’t have naturally pungent feet, the reaction between your shoe’s material and your bare, sweaty skin can create an unpleasant scent. Shoe spray acts as a perfume for your feet, making sure that they stay smelling good even when you are sweating.
Also, alternate between several pairs of shoes if possible. Wear one pair per day to give your other shoes time to air out and dry out.
9. Always Clean Up After Urination
During the day, while at work or going about your daily activities, you may feel pressed and want to ease yourself. You may either want to urinate or use the loo. Always ensure you clean yourself up properly after urinating or using the toilet. You should always have a pocket tissue with you wherever you go.
If you do not get water to wash off, at least your pocket tissue can go a long way. Don’t just urinate and then wear your dress immediately without cleaning. If you do so, you will end up smelling before the end of the day.
