Bloated Stomach – A bloated stomach is the feeling of fullness and pressure in your belly, usually caused by air or gas trapped in your gastrointestinal tract (the tract runs from the mouth to the anus), sometimes caused by an underlying medical condition or hormone change.
What commonly causes stomach bloating and the pain associated with it is excess intestinal gas. If you usually have a bloated stomach after food intake, it may be caused by some digestive issues resulting from either overeating, eating hot food, eating too fast, etc. Sometimes, it could be a result of intolerance to certain foods like lactose found in milk, proteins in beans, etc., which may cause gas and other digestive contents to build up in your stomach.
A bloated stomach is usually diagnosed through a physical examination or, in extreme cases, x-rays.
A bloated stomach makes you feel the following symptoms:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Extreme heartburn
- Fever
- Weight loss
- Blood in stool
If your bloating is caused by digestive issues (constipation, overeating, GERD) or hormone change you should be relieved within a few days or less. The following can stop bloating:
1. Herbal Teas
Including turmeric(which is high in curcumin) and ginger(high in gingerol) can aid digestion by expelling trapped gas in the gut.
2. Antacids
The active ingredient simethicone in antacids helps to fight inflammation in the digestive tract, this also helps to release gas which helps to ease the GI tract (gastrointestinal tract).
3. Antispasmodic Drugs
Like peppermint oil, helps to relieve muscle spasms and helps the intestinal muscles relax. This helps to excrete trapped poop.
4. Fiber Supplement
The regular use of fiber supplements like (psyllium husks) with plenty of water can help with regular bowel movements. This prevents every form of digestive issue from occurring.
5. Regular Exercise
With the aim of strengthening the body, muscles can directly help to relieve bloating by improving bowel movements.
