Renowned author, Chimamanda Adichie, has recently ventured into the realm of children’s literature. Her first children’s book titled “Mama’s Sleeping Scarf”, published recently has garnered significant attention from book lovers around the world.
In an interview with CNN, Chi shared her motivation behind this new endeavor. She admitted that she is not typically known for writing for children as her vision is a little too dark for young readers. She expressed her concern about potentially traumatizing children with her usual themes and narratives.
With palpable emotions emanating from her voice, Chi revealed the instance when the change began- Everything changed when I had my daughter she said, I began to read to her from a young age and that’s when the thoughts began to seep in. As a parent, Adichie understands the significance of every moment spent with a child, especially during their early years. One particular incident stood out to her- when her daughter playfully pulled off her scarf, Chi saw the beauty in the ordinary yet beautiful act and decided to put it into writing.
That single moment between Chi and her daughter eventually gave birth to the book- Mama’s Sleeping Scarf. This book is a Joyful exploration of the power of a mother-daughter relationship, written by one of the most outstanding contemporary authors of our generation.
