Anxiety can be described as a feeling of nervousness, worry, or unease, which typically occurs even when an imminent threat is absent. It is different from fear, which is the body’s natural way of responding to immediate threats or danger.
Anxiety is actually a normal phenomenon. It is a natural way in which the body responds to stress. It is normal to get anxious when faced with particular situations that are quite worrisome or stressful.

- Some medical conditions can lead to anxiety and it could also be as a result of the side effects of certain medications you are taking.
- Sudden withdrawal from drug addiction can also lead to chronic anxiety.
Sometimes, anxiety can be prevented or treated at home without clinical supervision. However, this may not be effective for severe or long-term anxiety disorders.
How to Prevent Anxiety
Here are some ways to prevent or deal with mild forms of anxiety:
- Try as much as possible to manage your stress level.
- Some lifestyle and dietary changes can go a long way in helping you manage your anxiety level.
- Organize your daily activities in a way that each will be handled at a time to avoid being overwhelmed.
- Find time to relax and rest as much as you can. Engage in fun activities that can help soothe your brain.
- Participate in exercises such as yoga, etc. which are good for the brain.
- Think positive only. Don’t give room for negative thoughts.
- Spend quality time with friends and loved ones. Also, choose wisely the people you hang out with. Ensure you surround yourself with only those who make you happy.
- Reduce your intake of caffeinated foods and drinks.
- You can go for psychological counseling when necessary.
However, if your symptoms persist after all of the above, you may have to seek urgent medical attention.
It may take some time to find the right treatment that works for you. Anxiety disorders come in various forms and you may need several kinds of treatment if you have more than one type of anxiety disorder. However, with proper care and treatment, you will be able to treat and manage your symptoms.
